To live is to be part of an ecosystem able to enhance our ability to communicate, talk, write and read. We need to be able to move from one place to another, we need accountability, we need predictability, we need insurance, to feel secure, and we need trust links. Our ability to have success, to move forward and to develop projects and relationships is 100% dependent on our ecosystem.

To Cloud or not to Cloud was the question raised at the “CloudViews – Cloud Computing Conference 2009″ and to which the correct answer will always depend on our capability to develop an ecosystem with all their components.

Helping Cloud Computing achieve its main goal – transform IT platforms in elastic, highly available, fault tolerant, secure, and multi-tenant platforms. Allowing IT technicians to be able to shift the focus of their work from the technology complexity to their companies core business, will depends on our capability to build a true Computing ecosystem in the Cloud: encryption mechanisms, predictability and provision platforms, SLAs monitoring and agreements contracts, AAI, elastic networks, interoperability frameworks, schedule mechanisms, etc.

Stay tunned…

For the past two months, although it has been very difficult to continue the writing, the CloudViews.Org has not stopped its work. As we promised in our ending notes on the CloudViews.Org Cloud Computing Conference 2009 the main subject for 2010 will be Interoperability, but before we start thinking on the layout of the new event we have to clarify some organizational issues. We want to use the base layout of 2009’s event but we have to articulate it with other projects that we are planning. All the projects will have as main goal to promote and help moving forward the Cloud Computing paradigm in an open and free way, but as I think all of you are able to imagine that is something not very easy to achieve.

On the writing side of CloudVIews.Org we already have some posts which are almost finished and ready to publish, but the subjects are so many and with the ideas flowing on the same path it’s becoming very hard to select the ones to finish first. If you want to continue your readings I leave here some of the sites and subjects that I’ve been occupied with and that have captured my attention:

So please stay tuned and as an appetizer here are some titles of next posts (not necessarily in this order):

  • Moving forward on Cloud Computing – Say bye bye to your LAN.
  • Entering the era of relations.
  • Cloud Security – Are we really moving forward?
  • Identity 2.0 – a simple (completed) mashup.

Cloud Computing is quite possibly the hottest, most discussed and often misunderstood concept in Information Technology (IT) today.

In short, Cloud Computing proposes to transform the way IT it’s deployed and managed, promising reduced implementation, maintenance costs and complexity, while accelerating innovation, providing faster timeto-market, and the ability to scale high-performance applications and infrastructures on demand.

But business managers know that in spite of the benefits of every new technology/business model there are also risks and issues (like for example: trust, loss of privacy, regulatory violation, data replication, coherency and erosion of integrity, application sprawl and dependencies, etc.) and that rushing things when it comes to Cloud Computing can be a very bad decision, but blowing off Cloud Computing all together because you think you can secure your own stuff better than a service provider or because many claims, made about Cloud Computing, have lead you to the point of “irrational exuberance” and unrealistic expectations, isn’t smart, either.

The goal of this White Paper is to provide a realistic perspective of the possibilities, benefits and risks of Cloud Computing; what to look for, what to avoid, and also some tips and best practices on implementation, architecture and vendor management strategies. It is important to consider all those aspects before you decide either to move (but without putting the carriage before the horse) or not to move your systems, applications, and/or data to to the “Cloud”, in a “hype free” approach.

Thanks and please let me know how I can help you.

P.S. And of course your comments, feedback’s and thoughts are always welcome.

Thank you all for this incredible experience.

After two days of vivid talks and thought exchanges we think that we were all able to acknowledge how Cloud Computing is changing how IT technologies and users are related. And how the Cloud Identity is being clarified and transformed into a clean and well defined paradigm.

We are already working on new events, and we are looking forward to see you all at the CloudViews.Org – Cloud Computing Conference 2010.

For those who were not able to view our intro video, where it is again.

We have also provided photos of the event, and also a presentation’s summary.

If you have any doubts or want to share with us your thoughts please send an email or continue to follow our work at the CloudViews.Org.

It’s still  premature to do a deep analysis of the results of CloudViews.Org – CloudComputing Conference 2009 — we are still very tired and working on subjects that were postponed due to the hard work needed to organize it. One important conclusion that we can take from the talks and thoughts produced on the event, is the answer to the  “To Cloud or not to Cloud” question.

To Cloud or not to Cloud, will only have an answer after a very detailed analysis of each specific case.

CloudViews.Org only aims to make available the necessary tools to allow the most accurate answer.
