One of the majors improvements powered by the Cloud paradigm is making IT a commodity. The IT industry, however, was not able to take advantage of this new reality. In the Cloud world Business, literally, meets Consumers. IT giants are having great difficulties adapting to this new, empowered and consumer-centric, working model. These giants are used to collect partners, which in turn sell their products to IT managers and CIOs. This traditional business model is having some difficulties imposing itself in the Cloud and I, sincerely, do not believe this would happen, at least in a short term and without some model redefinition. That being said, it is time for business owners, CEOs, entrepreneurs and department managers (among others) to update themselves, to redefine their business.

However, to obtain these results, managers need to be open mind about new ways of thinking and new ways of doing business: the Cloud way.

I’ve read the recent interview that Jason Fried gave to O’Reilly and found the following interesting thoughts:

“internet (“cloud”) based development and use of computer technology (“computing”). It is a style of computing in which typically real-time scalable resources are provided “as a service” over the Internet to users who need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure (“in the cloud”) that supports them.” (wikipedia)
On short-run applicability it’s a platform for the embedded information for the future dynamic actions of the Internet of Things’ (wikipedia) gadgets, inside and outside companies. For now it’s a medium for a better comprehension and creation of knowledge, offered by big companies a better and supposedly semi-open and optimized “service” over the internet. Data is there for the grasp of the beholder, what you do with it it’s your responsability and also of the target community. For now the bigger parcel of information content it’s companies propriety, the important “clouds” belong to the shareholders, and each of their knowledge is for the use of each company.
